Still a few weeks left…

….of WINTER!  It is said that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.  Brrrr!  A wintry mix is in the forecast for Friday and chilly evenings will continue through March.  For our pellet stove customers, we have plenty of pellets in stock and ready for you to pick up by the bag or the ton.  Also, now is the time for  our wood burning customers to start thinking about buying firewood for the upcoming heating season.  Firewood needs at least six months to be properly seasoned.  And remember, firewood doesn’t start to season until it is chopped, stacked, and OFF the ground.  Air needs room to circulate around all sides of the wood to dry it adequately.  A pile of chopped firewood on the ground is absorbing moisture from the ground which is exactly what you don’t want!

Pallets are an inexpensive way to get your firewood off  the ground.

Now, to cover or not to cover?  Covering the wood prevents rain, snow, and wet leaves from trapping moisture in the firewood.  However, covering wood can prevent adequate airflow which can impede the drying process.  You may find the best approach is to cover the top with a tarp and secure in such a way that the sides of the stacks remain open to allow air to circulate.  Or you can keep a close eye on the weather forecast, covering when rain is on the way and uncovering when sunny skies are predicted.  Practice makes perfect and you will find the system that works best for you.

Properly preparing for the upcoming heating season will ensure you are warm and cozy in the fall!

If you are thinking of purchasing a new heating appliance, it is certainly a considerable investment.  Quality and cost are often the top two factors influencing a purchase.  The good news is you have options!  Tax credits, grants, and financing are available.  And as always, Survival Products is Delmarva’s hearth expert offering top quality appliances to keep your family warm.

We are excited to announce two great events!  Wednesday March 16th we will host the Kayak Camping and Rigging Seminar right here in our store.  Make sure to RSVP to Joe at jpagliaro@rommelusa.com by March 12th to reserve your seat!  Also, don’t miss Kayak Angling 101 on Saturday April 2nd. We will be on the water, launching from Roaring Point.  It’s sure to be a fun day!  You must pre-register for this event by emailing Joe.  We hope to see you at both events!
